FIELD HOCKEY DOWNS MSU 2-1...WSOC FALLS TO VA TECH -- SUNDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

GARCIA'S GOAL AND ASSIST LEAD CARDS TO WIN

Cardinal attacker Chile Garcia scored a goal and created an assist for the other UofL score in chilly East Lansing Saturday...leading the Cards to a 2-1 win over Michigan State University.

35 degrees greeted players and defense dominated the first half...both teams failing to score in the first 35 minutes. Louisville wasted no time getting the scoreboard operator working in the final half, though...the Cards getting a penalty corner just 1:43 into action. As they've done all season long...Paige Monson and Mallory Mason created the assists to give the sophomore Cardinal from Chile a shot attempt and she capitalized to put Louisville up 1-0.

MSU broke the Cards four game scoreless streak with a goal at the 52:50 mark to tie the match...but Louisville responded just 1:39 later when Garcia found Mason on a lead and the senior drove home the game winner for the Stick Cards.

#9 Louisville (15-4) now prepares for first round action in the ACC Tournament...where they'll face Wake Forest in a quarterfinal match on Thursday @ 1 p.m.

VIRGINIA TECH RUINS WOMEN'S SOCCER FINALE 3-0

#15 Virginia Tech faced off against Louisville in a cold Lynn Stadium Saturday night and put a 3-0 loss on Karen Ferguson Dayes' WSOC squad on Senior Night.

Louisville held a 12-7 shot advantage in the game but could not capitalize...losing the corner battle to the Hokies 5-0.

Louisville allowed two scores in the first half...one nine minutes in and the second 15 minutes in.

The Cards end their inaugural season of ACC play at 7-9-2 and 3-5-2 in conference.

A rebuilding season...for sure...with 12 freshmen on the roster....but promising times ahead with Shelby Cohen, Chatham DeProspo, Inger Katrine Bjerke, Alison Price and Isabella Habuda all with three years of playing time left and Paige Brown and Kari Weinland still here for two more years for the Kickin' Cards.
